Advantages of Import Export Code (IEC)

IEC enables global trade with easy registration, lifetime validity, no returns, and access to government benefits.

Custom Clearance

Importers must quote the IEC during customs clearance, and banks require it for remitting payments abroad. Similarly, exporters must mention the IEC while shipping goods, and banks require it for receiving foreign payments.

No Compliance Requirement

IEC does not require any return filing or periodic compliance. Once issued, it remains valid without any renewal procedures, and no filings are required with DGFT even during transactions.

Business Entity

Any company, LLP, partnership firm, or individual (sole proprietor) can obtain an IEC in their name. It is not mandatory to have a formally established business entity to apply for IEC.

No Renewal

IEC does not require renewal and remains valid for the lifetime of the entity.

Expansion of Business

It enables businesses to expand into global markets and explore international growth opportunities.

Various Benefits

IEC enables businesses to avail various benefits and incentives for imports and exports from DGFT, Export Promotion Councils, and Customs authorities.
